KANU SPEAKS FROM PRISON, SEND MASSAGE TO BUHARI
– Nnamdi Kanu reacts to the reports that government may free him if he denounces Biafra
– IPOB leader, who is in detention, claims that it is Biafra or death
– However, the group declares support for Niger Delta militant groups
The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu, who is currently in detention of the DSS, has reacted to the report about the negotiation of his release reportedly going on between the federal government and Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND).
MEND has claimed on July 31 that it reached an agreement with the federal government to end the attacks in the Niger Delta region.
The group said that according to the deal the government may free Nnamdi Kanu and many other activists if they renounce Biafra.

IPOB in the latest statement said that the report is fake and its leader maintains it is either Biafra or death.
The statement reads in part:
“For the avoidance of doubt, Nnamdi Kanu never consented to any agreement nor did he at any time meet with MEND and their “Achitophel Team (Not Aaron).” It is understandable that MEND and their Ahithophel Team are scavenging for relevance from their moribund status but they should not use the sacred name of IPOB or its leader as a means of survival. MEND and their Ahithophel Team can conveniently carry out their “Operation Absalom (Not Moses)” without dragging the name of IPOB and Nnamdi Kanu into those shenanigans.
“On the other hand, IPOB and their leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu are in full support of any group of dedicated and hardcore freedom fighters such as the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA). We have stated unequivocally and without any fear of contradiction that we are fully in support of the NDA as they embark on freeing themselves from the British criminality called Nigeria, a contraption led by a man who committed treason on December 31, 1983.”

“The restoration of the nation of Biafra is not subject to negotiation. If there should be any form of negotiation at all, it must be centered on asset sharing between Nigeria and Biafra and on the payment of reparations for money stolen from Biafrans by Nigeria through the 1970 twenty pounds deal and other subsequent acts of thievery by Nigeria against Biafrans. We want to make it categorically clear that MEND and their Achitophel Team are strictly on their own and do not in any way, shape or form represent IPOB or the leader of IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. When we say “Biafra or Death”, we meant every syllable of that phrase.” Source: www.naij.com

— Aug 1, 2016 6:42 pm.
A 45-year-old woman was on Sunday gang-raped and tortured by gunmen in Abakaliki.
The victim told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that a group of armed men numbering about five, forcefully pulled her from the commercial tricycle (Keke) which she boarded.
According to her, the gunmen subsequently forced her into the Keke they boarded and drove-off alongside two motorcycles they hired.
“They took me to a swampy bush behind the San Diego Hotel, Kpirikpiri, Abakaliki, where they gang-raped, tortured and abandoned me thinking I was dead.
“A good Samaritan came to my rescue and informed the police who took me to a hospital where I was placed on intensive medication,” she said.
She said the attack was premeditated, alleging that the gunmen might had been hired by her estranged husband who hailed from Enugu.
“I reported him at the Family Law Centre,Abakaliki, over his incessant assault and inhuman treatment which causes me deep physical and emotional trauma.
“During the last sitting of the Centre’s court, he boasted that my case with him will end when I am ‘eliminated’.
The Public Relations Officer of the Ebonyi Police Command , DSP George Okafor, who confirmed the story, assured that the command would get to the root of the matter.
“No arrest has been made so far on the issue, as we are currently concentrating on saving the woman’s life.
“Investigations into the matter will, however, be pursued to its logical conclusion, to apprehend and prosecute the culprits,” he said. (NAN)

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Sen. Chris Ngige, said on Monday that the Federal Government had received 800,000 applications for the 500,000 jobs promised the youth.
Speaking at the 5th Town Hall Meeting organised by the Federal Ministry of Information in Enugu on Monday, Ngige advised the people of the South East to explore the opportunity by registering on the web portal.
He said that the jobs were mainly for teaching and skills acquisition as promised by the APC government.
He said that the administration had a good agenda for the unemployed youths irrespective of the current challenges facing it.
The minister said that 100,000 out of the 500,000 to be employed would be trained as agricultural extension workers and deployed to rural areas to assist the farmers with improved method of farming through the partnership of the ministry of agriculture.
“I want our graduates to register so that they will not say that they are marginalised when people that registered are selected,” he said.
He urged the governors and local government chairmen in the South East to assist their youths to print the forms as many expressed difficulty in accessing the portal.
Ngige regretted that youths neglected skills acquisition to chase white collar jobs that were not in existence, adding that most skilled jobs were being done by Ghanaians and people from other neighboring countries.
“If our youths had acquired skills, they would be self employed and reliant and shun Boko Haram, IPOB and Avengers,” the minister said.
He described Igbo youths as enterprising and hardworking and could survive without depending on the government but had neglected their values.
The minister explained that the current economic hardship the country faced was because the past government neglected agriculture and failed to save for the rainy day.
He admonished the Igbo to come out of the “persecution syndrome,’’ saying that the APC-led government was not marginalising any section of the country. (NAN)

Jamb Admission Modalities for Universities
JAMB’s New Screening Model to replace Post-UTME
Jul 5 2016 - 7:08am
In separate meetings with representatives of universities, polytechnics and colleges of Education, the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, JAMB, recently revealed the criteria for next session’s admission.
Here are the details:
Federal Universities
Ratio: 60: 40 (SCIENCES / ARTS)
A. CONVENTIONAL INSTITUTIONS
(Universities and Colleges of Education)
Sciences (60) : Arts/Social Sciences (40)
B. SPECIALIZED UNIVERSITIES
(Technology, Agriculture, etc)
Sciences (100%)
C. POLYTECHNICS/COLLEGES OF TECHNOLOGY
Science Related (70) : Arts Related (30)
UTME/DIRECT ENTRY: 9 : 1
That is:
– 90% for UTME
– 10% for DE
However, if the 10% for DE is not utilized, it may be added to the UTME quota.
Private Universities:
Ratio: 60 : 40 (SCIENCES / ARTS)
A. CONVENTIONAL INSTITUTIONS
(Universities and Colleges of Education)
Sciences (60) : Arts/Social Sciences (40)
B. SPECIALIZED UNIVERSITIES
– Sciences, Technology, Agriculture, etc (Not less than 80%)
– Others (Not more than 20%)
C. POLYTECHNICS, COLLEGES OF TECHNOLOGY, etc
– Science/Technology Related (70) : Arts Related (30)
UTME/DIRECT ENTRY RATIO: 9 : 1
That is:
– 90% for UTME
– 10% for DE
ISSUES TO NOTE
– The list of candidates that have scored above the minimum cut-off mark, and are NOT admitted may be forwarded to other institutions that need them for consideration. Especially their Second (2nd) Choice institutions of preferences.
The rules:
1. Screening of candidates shall be for those offered Provisional AdmissionsONLY.
2. No written examination to be conducted.
3. Verification of Course Requirements (O levels or A levels).
4. Verification of valid JAMB results by checking
i.Online Result Slip
ii.Printout
iii.Provisional Admission Letter
iv.Photo Album
v.Check list
vi.Biometrics
vii. Before a candidate can seat be considered for screening, he/she must have been given provisional admission by Jamb.
viii. Institutions are free to source from other Course(s) to compensate for SHORTFALL in any of the criteria.
The point system:
This is the most critical part of the process. Jamb’s provisional admission no longer makes much sense this year, your points tally will decide your faith. The points are evenly spread out between your O’level and Jamb results to provide a level playing field for all.
In the first case, any candidate who submits only one result which contains his/her relevant subjects already has 10points, the exam could be NECO, WAEC, GCE etc, but any candidate who has 2 sittings only gets 3 points. So this means that aspirants with only one result are at an advantage but only just.
The next point grades fall into the O’level grades. Each grades has it’s equivalent point, A=6 marks, B=4 marks, C=3 marks, so the better your grades the better your chances.
The next point is the UTME scores. Each score range has its equivalent point which can be summarized thus, 180-200=20-23 marks, 200-250=24-33 points, 251-300=34-43, 300-400=44-60 points. Each categories contains 5 Jamb results per point added, for example a candidate with 180-185 gets 20points, a candidate with 186-190 gets 21 points etc.
Points system for DE will be released soon.
– It then comes down to the fact that fees will still be charged for screening, it depends on the school as well.
– Catchment and ELDS will still be used!

FG scraps post UTME, PEGS CUTT-OFF AT 180
The Federal Government Thursday scrapped the conduct of post Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME) for candidates seeking admission into higher institution.
The government explained that all tertiary institutions were at liberty to conduct screening for candidates seeking admission into any school.
Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, said this on Thursday in Abuja after declaring open the 2016 Combined Policy Meeting on Admissions to Universities, Polytechnics and other higher institutions in Nigeria.
Adamu, expressed confidence in the examination conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), adding that there was no need for other examination to be conducted by universities after JAMB.
He said: “As far as I am concerned the nation has confidence in what JAMB is doing. The universities should not be holding another examination and if the universities have any complain against JAMB let them bring it and then we address it.
“If JAMB is qualified enough to conduct tests and they have conducted test then there will be no need to conduct another test for students to gain admission.”
The Minister also asked the JAMB to stop extra charges on several categories of changes on admissions such as the change of course, change of school and others.
Meanwhile, the JAMB has pegged the cut – off mark for admission for 2016 at 180.
The 180 benchmark, applies to all universities and higher institutions in the country, including polytechnics, colleges of education, and others.
JAMB’s Registrar and Chief Executive Officer, Prof. Dibu Ojerinde, after a long debate with delegates from various institutions, told journalists that no institution would go below the 180 cut-off set by the board.
He said: “180 is given, no institution will go below 180 this year, And some universities can go above it, I know University of Ife will not go below 200 and University of Lagos will not go below 200 and also UI. All these ones stand but 180 as bench mark for others.
“This year we have more than enough candidates, we have over 1.5 million candidates so we will get enough candidates to take in all the schools if they are serious. Re-distribution is already ongoing, because it is embedded in the registration procedure.”
