Nigerians react to President Buhari's planed 2 weeks vacation to United Kingdom
A one year and six months old severely malnourished.
The mother of the child Esther Etim Effiom, a 16 years old girl had been sent sent to live with a distant relation at Eket as a house maid. She got pregnant for one Victor who she refuses to Identify.
The family she was working for sent her away with the pregnancy. Back home, her grand parents, who she lived with initially, won't take her in because they claimed they didn't send her to Eket to get pregnant.

Speaking, Dr Betta Edu said Esther who is but a child herself, gave birth to another child. This child now is severely malnourished, highly irritable, lacks any form of care and is waiting on death. Esther is out of school and does nothing. Every one is at the mercy of her mothers friend. Esther is a young helpless teenager who deserves a chance at quality education and a Good life. Though she noted that the State Government is not relenting her effort in providing Vitamins A to Children.
She said as part of the State Government resolved to fight malnutrition in children a mandate was given to team of health workers on duty during the MNCH week to drew the attention of the Agency on any case of malnutrition so that necessary actions can be taken to revive such child. So coming here today is part of that process as we have intensify effort to reach out to 447 communities with Vitamin A supplement as part of its effort to check malnutrition in the state. The young Christiana must survive, the teenage mother must go back to school so we are calling all Cross Riverians to give support to this family.
According to Mrs Cecilia Bassey Esther's guidance, Esther was sent to live with a distant relation at Eket as a house maid; She just finished primary 6 when she got pregnant for Victor her so called lover who she refuses to Identify. According to her the family hosting her, sent her away with the pregnancy.
Back home, her grand parents, who she lived with initially, won't take her in because they claimed the didn't send her to Eket to get pregnant. Her mother who is now on the run, brought Esther to my house at 8 miles and left her there. So she has been living with us since then, I don't know what is wrong with the child as they all eats the same food with me. Am appealing to the Government and good people of Cross River State to come to our aid and save the life of Christiana ( the malnourished child)
The state nutrition officer, Mrs Regina Adie said it so pertinent that such case could be recorded in Calabar and with a teenage mother who is yet to begin her secondary education. She said malnutrition was one of the key focus area during the just concluded MNCH Week even as we keep on advising mothers to come out with their children and immunize instead of staying at home syndrome which could endanger the life of their children. She pleaded with women to always visit Health facilities to ascertain the state of their children health.
The DG and the State Nutrition officer later took child and mother to General Hospital Calabar (pediatrics ward) where the child is presently on admission as aided by the Medical Superintendent Dr Ayi who saw reasons for the child to survive. He said the Child will undergo several check up before treatment is given. He was adamant that before two to three weeks time the Child will be better.
It would be recalled that Cross River State Government had concluded plans to distribute vitamin A supplements and others to children in 447 communities as part of its effort to check malnutrition in the state especially places that cannot be accessed by roads.

Man's face shattered after e-cigarette exploded in his mouth (photos)
Andrew Hall from Idaho US lost seven teeth, suffered facial burns, and had bits of plastic stuck into his face after the e-cigarette he was smoking exploded in his mouth.
Hall shared his experience via his Facebook account to warn fellow vapers of the dangers of vaping.
He wrote:
"I’ve been vaping for about a year now and assure you I did not do anything I wasn’t supposed to – but it exploded in my face. I’ve lost at least 7 teeth, second degree burns to face and neck and have been pulling chunks of plastic, teeth and foreign objects from mouth, throat and lips.
"I was lucky and they’re was a huge amount of damage to the room in my house I was in as well. I know vapes help people quit smoking cigarettes and that’s amazing. I just want to bring to light this is possible that they can explode without warning.
"I would have said 'no way that’s possible' until now."
He is currently in the intensive care unit of a hospital where he is being treated for his injuries.

Former US president, George H.W. Bush hospitalized
Bush, who served a single-term as President from 1988 to 1992, was not expected to attend the inauguration of the 45th President, Donald J. Trump, in Washington on Friday due to health concerns.
Several bouts with illness have kept the 92-year-old out of the spotlight in recent years and he has rarely made public remarks.
Bush revealed several years ago that he suffered from a form of Parkinson's disease that left him unable to walk.
He uses a wheelchair or a scooter to get around and had two other health scares in 2014 and 2015.
Negotiation for the release of the remaining abducted Chibok girls is ongoing- Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed says
Mohammed disclosed this during a briefing after conclusion of the one-day intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance, ISR, operation to the Sambisa Forest in Yola, Adamawa State with members of the Bring Back Our Girls group yesterday.
“Negotiations for the release of the girls have never stopped. In a situation like this, we use the carrot and stick approach. Even the success of the military also helped fasttrack the process of the negotiation for those released. The negotiation is complicated, delicate and changes from time to time, but we are still talking and we are near a breakthrough. This government has nothing to hide, that is why we have brought you here so that you can have a first-hand experience. We want to let the world know what we have been doing not only to recover the girls but also to end the insurgency.”he said
Don’t Try Me With Fani-Kayode, Ex-Minister Begs Court
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission charged Usman and Fani-Kayode with an alleged fraud of N4.9bn.
The other defendants in the charge are one Danjuma Yusuf and a company, Joint Trust Dimensions Nigeria Limited.
The defendants were arraigned before Justice Hassan on 17 counts on June 29, 2016.
Trial in the case had commenced on October 21, 2016, with the EFCC calling its first witness, Idowu Olusegun, a media consultant.
At the resumed proceedings in the case on Tuesday, Usman’s lawyer, Mr. Jelili Owonikoko (SAN), pointed Justice Hassan’s attention to two pending applications filed by his client.
One of the applications, Owonikoko said, was praying the court to allow Usman to be tried separately from Fani-Kayode and for her trial to be transferred from Lagos to Abuja for convenience.
Owonikoko said his client was apprehensive that she might not get justice if she was jointly tried with Fani-Kayode.
“We are concerned about the joint trial of the first defendant (Usman) with the second defendant (Fani-Kayode),” he said.
He said it was inconvenient for his client, who lives in Abuja, to be travelling to Lagos to stand trial.
He said it became even more difficult for the former minister because all her bank accounts had been frozen, adding that for each court appearance, she would fly to Lagos a day before, lodge in a hotel and return to Abuja the day after the court trial.
The Senior Advocate of Nigeria told the court that Usman, in the second application, prayed for the release of her passport to enable her to travel abroad for medical treatment.
Fani-Kayode’s lawyer, Mr. Norrison Quakers (SAN), also filed an application, urging Justice Hassan to excuse himself from the case because the judge was once a prosecutor with the EFCC.

Why I chose Algeria over France – Mahrez
Propelled to global renown by Leicester City’s amazing run to Premier League glory, the 25-year-old will be one of the most watched stars at the Cup of African Nations where Algeria start against Zimbabwe on Sunday.
Once considered too small for professional football, he will be one of the biggest names at the tournament in Gabon.
He only made his debut for Algeria in May 2014 a few months after declaring that he wanted to play for the African nation aroiund the same time as serious riots in Sarcelles.
At just 1.78 metres (5 feet 10 inches) and a sinewy 70 kilos (154 pounds) nobody at Sarcelles imagined he could soar to such heady prodessional heights.
At the age of 18, Mahrez was “frustrated” but determined when many of his Sarcelles teammates had signed professional terms, according to Hayel Mbemba, a teaching assistant at Chantereine school in the Paris suburb where Mahrez was a pupil.
– Mahrez vowed success –
“Despite all that, Riyad swore on his life and that of his mother, that one day he would be a professional. At that time we were pessimistic.“Today, he has made it and you can only give him respect for that.”
His hunger only grew when his father, one of his biggest supporters, died suddenly in 2006.
“It gave him the force,” said elder brother Wahid. “He really did it for him, for me, the family.”
When Mahrez chose to play for Algeria over France, “it was for his papa,” added the 30-year-old.
A childhood friend, Sofiane Seghiri, 26, said that Mahrez always had a ball at his feet.
“When you are 16-to-18 you want to go out, have fun with friends, maybe see some girls. He always had a ball,” said Seghiri, laughing.
“That is why he is unique.”
Mahrez first had an unsuccessful trial in Scotland, then played with Quimper in the French lower leagues and Le Havre in the second division where he was spotted by Leicester.
In the English second division it was tough forMahrez to adapt his free dribbling game to the weekly confrontations with hard-ground defenders.
But since Leicester’s fairy tale title win last year, he has been named Premier League player of the season, came seventh in the race for the Ballon d’Or and last week was named Africa’s player of the year.
He has left a big impact at Sarcelles where scouts from foreign teams are now regular visitors in the poor suburb north of Paris.
“It may be the Mahrez effect that has brought the English scouts here. Two have gone to English clubs and there will be more,” said Faysal Abdelwahbi, a childhood friend and coach of the under 12 team at AAS Sarcelles.
There are plenty in the youth teams who have now become left-footers. Many can recall every Mahrez nutmeg in the Premier League.
“It all started here, everything that the English defenders are putting up with, we also suffered,” said Abdelwahbi.
“For a guy from Sarcelles to shine on the world stage makes us verey proud,” said Sarcelles senior coach Mohamed Coulibaly.
“It is good for the town after all the things that you hear, the stigma that it puts up with.”

6 year old girl raped 7 times in Ogun says Uncle told her she will die if she told her mother
A six-year-old girl named Mariam has narrated in chilling details, how the son of her school's proprietress, Sirotullahi Abdufatahi, 21, raped her 7 times.
Little Mariam attends a boarding school at Iju, Ogun state called Medinat Al Munawarat Islamic Nursery and Primary School. She is Basic One and her mother Sola (not real name) is a widow.
According to Punch, Sola had to send her only child Miriam to the boarding school at such a young age because it was run by people in her religion, and she believed she could get the right education and care as she worked to cater for her.
Sola had no inkling anything was wrong with her only child when she was brought home on holiday
during the Yuletide. She had no idea about the abuse her daughter had been suffering in the school.
Until the week Mariam was supposed to resume school for the year, she was at her big aunty’s house when she decided to share with her cousin, a girl about her age, her “school stories”.
In the story, she told her little cousin how Uncle Sirotulahi would come to their room on some nights, pulled her out of the bed she shared with other girls who are boarders in the school and told her to pull down her pant.
Punch reports that when they interviewed Mariam in the presence of her mother, it became clear that she knew exactly what she was saying.
Wearing a long hijab, and speaking English smartly, the child played on her mother’s couch, scampering from one point to another innocently, until her mother asked her to keep still. There was no doubt that Mariam was a happy child.
When Punch asked about what her “uncle” did to her, she asked,

“I rushed to the school and confronted the proprietress. Rather than invite his son to ask him questions, she picked up her phone, called and asked him if it was true he was raping the girls he taught. Of course, he denied it.
“I then took my daughter to a hospital where some doctors examined her and confirmed what I already knew. She was only examined, they did not test her for diseases. The doctors said she had indeed been defiled.”The suspect is currently in Sokoto State, Saturday PUNCH learnt.

“When I was informed about the case, I called my son and he denied it. He is currently in Sokoto where he is schooling. He is not 21, he is just a 15-year-old secondary school student. I was confused when he denied the accusation because I did not think my son would lie.
“He was at home for holiday at the time he allegedly raped the girl. When he came, because we do not have enough teachers, I told him to help out by teaching the lower classes. I have been operating this kind of school for over 27 years.
“My son swore that he knew nothing about it. I don’t know what to do. Truly, the mother has told me about her visit to the hospital and about how much she needs to pay for treatment and tests on the girl but I have no money. I have been very broke. I told her that she should be patient with me and that I would find the money. I can only beg her. If it is about money, I will find money.”

In a society where people can hardly speak openly about sexual problems, Saturday PUNCH’s investigation shows that some vendors sell sex toys worth millions of naira every month.
A sex therapist and prominent sex toy vendor, Mrs. Iheoma Obibi, explained that contemporary Nigerians are gradually coming out of some sort of “sexual darkness” and this is creating a boom in the market with an attendant influx of fake sex toys.
For the last six and half years, Kemi Fawole, a certified sex therapist, has been dealing in adult products including sex toys. She told Saturday PUNCH that she sells at least N7m worth of sex toys
yearly.
It is about the same for actress-turned sex toy vendor, Bisi Ibidapo-Obe, who told one of their correspondents,
Yet, these two are just a small fraction of the numerous sex toy vendors who now trade in the country.
A new vendor, Japhet Okoromadu, who just started selling sex toys online about a year ago said:
Fawole also said some of her vibrators are as cheap as N5,000 while some are as high as N150,000. She said the common vibrators are between N5,000 and N20,000.
In Ibidapo-Obe’s store at Magodo, in Lagos, the cheapest sex toy in her store sells for about N30,000 while the most expensive is about N200,000.
Judging by the volume of sales that many of the sex toy vendors make annually, there is no doubt that the industry runs into several millions.
That sector is the sex toy market.

Unfortunately, most of the women cannot voice out their concern to their partners.”It was learnt that some of these adult products, sell for between N5,000 and N25,000 while premium brands sell for higher.

Watch Bishop Oyedepo pray 'Lord, if it’s your will to break up Nigeria, break it now'
The founder and presiding Bishop of the megachurch, Faith Tabernacle, Bishop David Oyedepo has invoked God’s curses on those fueling Southern Kaduna killings, saying God should break up Nigeria now if it is His will.
The Bishop, during a ministration rained down curses on those promoting the wanton killings, and equally said that God sent him to this continent as His apostle of liberation to stop it from decadence.
To his members, he said,
